Kalmar is taking a step forward in the world of sustainable sports by installing Act Sports’ microplastic-free artificial turf at Brännarhallen
The Swedish municipality of Kalmar is looking to the future by committing to a more sustainable approach to sport. The indoor football pitch at Brännarhallen has undergone a complete renovation with the #Evotion system from Act Sports: an artificial turf surface that is free from microplastics and infill and is designed to deliver professional performance while respecting the environment.

Indoor football without microplastics
With a European ban on granular infill containing microplastics set to come into effect in 2031, Kalmar wanted to get ahead of the curve. The aim was not only to comply with the regulation, but also to send a clear message that sport can – and should – be part of the solution.
By choosing a system like #Evotion, the municipality can guarantee that local teams, schools and athletes will have access to a safe, durable playing surface that is free from polluting particles and fully adapted to the demands of the modern game.
“The installation of the infill-free pitch at Brännarhallen is in line with Kalmar’s strategy to reduce microplastics. This project is an important step in preparing for the regulation that will come into force in 2031.'

A team effort: Act Sports and Hågestam Sport AB
This renovation was made possible thanks to the collaboration between Act Sports, Europe’s leading manufacturer of sustainable artificial turf, and Hågestam Sport AB, specialists in sports facilities across the Nordic countries.
Together, they completed the project in just one week on a prefabricated shock pad base, ensuring a flawless result with minimal disruption to the centre’s activities.
Why choose the #Evotion system?
It represents the next evolution in artificial turf for indoor football. It is a no-infill, no-waste, no-compromise technology. It is perfectly suited to intensive, continuous use, such as at Brännarhallen week after week.
It has been engineered to maintain its performance and appearance over time while minimising its environmental impact during use and at the end of its lifecycle.
It embodies innovation, fair play and respect for the environment
By installing this system, Kalmar is not only renovating a pitch, but also reinforcing its commitment to grassroots sport, sustainability and the future of its young people. It does so by proving that it is possible to be ambitious, responsible and effective all at once.
Act Sports is proud to have been part of this project, which brings together passion, technology, and responsibility, setting an example for many other municipalities across Europe.

“The idea was clear: to allow many hours of indoor play per week without using infill. #Evotion was the perfect solution.”
