UK Padel teams up with Act Sports to help expand popularity of padel in UK

Kruisem, 9 October 2024 - UK Padel joins forces with global sports turf brand Act Sports to reinforce the sport's popularity in the UK and back its County Championships. "We're happy to have the support of a leading global padel brand that shares our high ambitions," says Nick Baker, CEO at UK Padel.

Catalyst role

Compared to many other European countries, padel started catching on relatively late in the UK. But today, the sport is gaining popularity at a staggering pace. The Lawn Tennis Association anticipates a player increase from 90,000 in 2023 to over 600,000 in 2026, while the number of courts is expected to rise from 350 to over 1,000 by 2026.

An important catalyst of this growth Is the UK Padel County Championships. The inaugural edition in November 2023 was the largest padel competition ever held in the UK, with over 170 competitors from 21 counties competing in men’s, women’s, and mixed events. In 2024, UK Padel added tournaments for players over 40, 50, and 60 to a second edition of its open event.

"We believe this series will help accelerate the growth of the sport", says Nick Baker, CEO at UK Padel. "By spreading the four events over the calendar year, we create a year-long cycle to build and engage a loyal fan and player base." The UK Padel County Championships 2024 series began in March at Rocket Padel in Bristol with the over 50’s event and will conclude with the open tournament at the same venue in November.

UK Padel partnership

Ultimate comfort

UK Padel decided to team up with Act Sports, Beaulieu International Group's sports brand, to encourage the popularity of the sport in the UK. "Our partnership with UK Padel fits our ambition to provide quality turf for clubs and tournaments all over the world, in order to help the fastest growing sport in the world grow even faster", explains Friso van den Berg, Sales Director at Act Sports. "In 2023 alone, we supplied 2,500 padel courts across Europe."

"We have a wide range of padel systems that boast high quality and playability, guaranteeing ultimate comfort for players of any level and age. That's why organizations such as UK Padel and Premier Padel - the highest level of our sport - rely on Act Sports padel turf. The other way around, we're happy to have the UK Padel County Championships as a platform to showcase our brand and what we stand for."

UK Padel partnership

Build community

"We're convinced that our partnership with Act Sports will contribute to boosting the growth of this rapidly expanding sport in the UK", UK Padel CEO Nick Baker adds. "Padel is the best sport in the world to engage the widest possible range of people to get exercise, stay healthy, and build a community. Enough reason to join forces with a partner that meets our ambitious goals."

Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2 treats top padel players to sports turf by Act Sports

Kruisem, 12 September 2024 – From 14 to 22 September 2024, two weeks before the start of Paris Major Premier Padel, the international padel elite will gather in Valladolid, Spain. To ensure the P2 tournament offers the best possible infrastructure, the organization selected Act Sports as their official padel turf supplier. Act Sports, the sports brand of Beaulieu International Group (B.I.G.), will install 3 courts with its flagship system for padel: #Score.

Padel jump

A premium padel event

Organized by the International Padel Federation (FIP), and supported by Professional Padel Association (PPA) and Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), Premier Padel is the world’s most important padel circuit.

In the circuit, top padel players compete in 25 tournaments spread over 18 countries. According to the prize money and the number of points players can earn, the tournaments are classified as 10 P2 events, 10 P1 events, and 4 Majors – comparable with the 4 Grand Slams in tennis. In December, the best 8 players of the season will face off in the Finals, held in Barcelona, Spain.

The P2 tournament in Valladolid is the 17th event on this year’s Premier Padel calendar and takes place just before the prestigious Major event in Paris, France. Nice to know: Valladolid is the hometown of the current number one in men’s padel, Arturo Coello.

#Score sports turf lets players shine

“With Act Sports as our official sports turf supplier, we’re sure to have selected a playing surface that is among the very best out there. World-class players deserve a world-class court that was developed for a comfortable player experience and superior gameplay. That’s what they get with Act Sport’s #Score system. For example, thanks to the limited amount of silica needed, the system offers players a firm grip without affecting game speed. Extra benefit: the sports turf is produced locally in Spain.”

Innovation for growth

Unsurprisingly, 5 of the 25 Premier Padel tournaments take place in Spain, the cradle of padel. “The fan base is simply the largest and the focus on high-quality infrastructure unparalleled,” says Ivan Raso, Sales Manager at Act Sports. “Needless to say, we’re proud to provide the sports turf system for the games in Valladolid. After Brussels Premier Padel, this is our second partnership in the circuit – a next milestone on our way to world leadership. Meanwhile, we keep on improving all our existing systems and searching for innovation opportunities. Enabling both professional and recreational players to have fun on our sports turf is still our main motivation.”

Clément Geens, Belgium’s number 1 in padel, newest Act Sports ambassador

Kruisem, 5 September 2024 – In Belgian padel, Clément Geens has become a household name. He not only runs his own successful academy, he is also the country’s number one player. “Helping young talents like Clément act on their dreams is what Act Sports is all about,” says Lieven Bertier, Marketing Director Sports & Landscaping at Act Sports. “We look forward to taking the world’s top 100 ranking by storm together.”

Clement Geens celebrating

Upcoming star

Clément Geens was raised in a family that was all about hockey. His mum played for the national team, his father and cousin were star players, his uncle coached the national women’s and men’s team … Yet, the young Clément was more into racquet sports. As a junior, he participated in all tennis grand slams. And in 2016, at the age of 20, he ranked 245th in the ATP ranking. However, a series of injuries forced Clément Geens to retire from pro tennis. He switched to padel and quickly got the hang of it. He joined the national team and also started playing tournaments abroad. In 2024, Clément and his French partner Dylan Guichard qualified for one of the world’s 4 Major Premier Padel tournaments for the first time. The future looks bright for the duo.

Player comfort and gameplay as gamechangers

As a player who had his share of injuries, Clément Geens highly values equipment and infrastructure that prioritize player comfort. “So, when Act Sports asked me to become an ambassador, my decision was quickly made,” Clément claims. “Playing at the Brussels Premier Padel, I was struck by the combination of consistent, high-quality gameplay with great player experience the sports turf offers. For example, the cushioning is much easier on the joints, leading to fewer injuries and more comfortable play. By spreading the word and wearing the Act Sports logo on my shirt, I’ll be a proud ambassador. Extra benefit: I get to test innovative sports turf systems by Act Sports.”

Partnership marks another milestone for Act Sports

Vice versa, Act Sports will actively support Clément Geens. After Portuguese player João Moura , he is now the second professional player to officially tie the knot with Act Sports. “As a global leader in top-tier sports turf systems, we make it our mission to help young talents become the best versions of themselves,” says Lieven Bertier. “We look forward to working together with Clément and are very proud to have him on board.” This is another milestone in 2024, a year that already saw partnerships with the Premier Padel tournaments in Brussels and Valladolid, as well as a continued collaboration with player João Moura.”

Together for top 100 position

Clément Geens is ready for the next step in his career: “We’ll play all P1, P2, and major tournaments we can qualify for. At the same time, I plan to participate in the national championships and the Belgium padel tour, the national circuit consisting of 4 tournaments with the country’s best players. The ultimate goal: a top 100 position in the global ranking.”

Act Sports looks forward to assisting Clément in making the final jump on the ranking – he is number 107 at the time of writing. Let’s go!
